TRANSPORTATION

 Description of the Program

The RSVP Transportation Program utilizes volunteers to transport, using their personally owned vehicle, and principally senior residents of Kay County, to necessary appointments either in the county or out of the area.

Necessary appointments typically are scheduled and not for pleasure or profit.  Related appointments or meetings must be considered by RSVP as necessary for the health and life, financial sustainability, or general well being of the client or a family member. Typical examples of appointments include the following:

Individuals desiring this transportation assistance must submit and application, which can be obtained at the RSVP office at 205 West Hartford, Suite 100.

 Purpose/Need for the Program

The purpose of this program is to support continuity of independent living by insuring that older residents of Kay County, who are unable to drive their own vehicle, receive priority, safe, and reliable transportation to local and out-of-town medical or dental appointments without charge.

Older adults, ages 65 and older, generally have more visits to medical providers than any other age group.  They also may experience restrictions on driving because of physical impairments, difficulty managing the challenges of big city traffic problems, possible loss of license, or the inability to maintain a personally owned vehicle on a fixed income.  Their family and friend support system often dwindles due to death or a move to a more distant location.  Their driving abilities can become impaired to the point where they no longer can transport themselves to and from places of work, shopping for groceries, or to health care appointments.

Volunteer Drivers Needed

Volunteer drivers are very much needed for this program.  If you would be willing to drive an individual needing transportation in your personally owned vehicle and receive reimbursement upon completion of the trip, please contact RSVP Director Rocky Hudson or Traci at 762-9412.
