Senior Services Help Available

Judy Rupp from NODA will be in Ponca City to provide personal help on various issues related to Seniors. She will be at the Ponca City Senior Center on the last Wednesday of each month from 9:00 until 4:00. Judy has worked for NODA for many years.  This is a great opportunity to get questions answered and receive help on senior issues dealing with medical, financial, or legal needs.

Rupp is a Certified Aging Information and Assistance Specialist, care coordinator and Medicare specialist. She welcomes drop-ins but, based upon the success of her previous two visits, appointments are encouraged. To schedule an appointment, call (800) 749-1149.

According to Rupp, the No. 1 question asked by her clients regards Medicare Supplement Insurance and Medicare Part D drug plans. "There are 7,000 Americans turning 65 every day," Rupp explained in an email interview. "Granted, they don't all live in Oklahoma but there are a lot retiring on any given day. For example, NOC recently offered a retiree benefit package deal. "Retirees should compare their company retiree benefits with The Medicare Advantage plans, and original Medicare with a Drug plan to see which would be the best plan for them."

Program Information

 How Much Time is Needed?

Volunteers give anywhere from a few hours to many hours a week helping at various places in their communities.

 Where Can I Volunteer?

Today’s older adults are busy, productive people.  Some RSVP volunteers use their skills and experience to tutor and mentor children, counsel small businesses, assist at health clinics, hospitals or nursing homes, or teach other seniors computer skills.  Others distribute food at area nutrition sites as well as deliver meals to homebound seniors, some volunteer at a variety of one-time community events.  RSVP volunteers want to keep active in ways that make a difference.

Why Should I Join RSVP?   There are many reasons to join RSVP.

4 By joining RSVP you receive free supplemental insurance, which will cover any incremental costs not covered by your own insurance if you are injured while doing volunteer work scheduled through the RSVP office.

4 RSVP matches the interests and life experiences of seniors age 55 and older with the volunteer opportunities in the community.

4 RSVP serves as a link to over 60 volunteer sites or stations throughout Kay County.

4 Volunteer hours are reported to the State and Federal Government to help obtain grants which fund the program.  These grant dollars provide further opportunities for growth in our communities!

What Are My Commitments to RSVP After I Join?
