RSVP to Partner for New Senior Center Program Series

A new series of programs for seniors for the year 2010 will be launched in January at Ponca City Senior Center, 319 West Grand.  RSVP will be one of the sponsors for this program series.

The new program series will be known as “Peer to Peer.”  There will be one program on different topics of interest to seniors each quarter during the year—in January, April, July, and October.  The Peer to Peer idea grew out of the realization that the experiences that seniors themselves have with various life issues and the knowledge they gain could be very beneficial to other seniors.  These Senior Center programs will feature a panel of seniors as well as a professional for each of the topics.  Questions from program attendees directed towards both the panel members and the professional representative will be encouraged.

Don’t miss this great new program series!

Program Information

 How Much Time is Needed?

Volunteers give anywhere from a few hours to many hours a week helping at various places in their communities.

 Where Can I Volunteer?

Today’s older adults are busy, productive people.  Some RSVP volunteers use their skills and experience to tutor and mentor children, counsel small businesses, assist at health clinics, hospitals or nursing homes, or teach other seniors computer skills.  Others distribute food at area nutrition sites as well as deliver meals to homebound seniors, some volunteer at a variety of one-time community events.  RSVP volunteers want to keep active in ways that make a difference.

Why Should I Join RSVP?   There are many reasons to join RSVP.

4 By joining RSVP you receive free supplemental insurance, which will cover any incremental costs not covered by your own insurance if you are injured while doing volunteer work scheduled through the RSVP office.
