HOME BOUND MEAL DELIVERY

Description of the Program

The Home Bound Meal Delivery Program is a food distribution program in which seniors who meet the qualifications and are unable to attend a local nutrition site receive meals delivered to their homes five days each week by volunteers.  The meals are prepared by Wheatheart Nutrition at their Blackwell site.  The volunteers who deliver the meals also check on the well-being of the meal recipients each day to insure they are able to function independently and continue receiving the daily meal delivery.

 Purpose/Need for the Program

The daily home-delivered meals enable the seniors who receive them to be able to remain in their homes and continue the continuity of independent living.  Many of the home bound meal recipients would require institutionalization without the daily meal delivery and the daily check on their well-being.  Many of the residents receiving these meals have reported the benefits to both their physical and emotional well-being. Further, according to nutrition site managers, the program would be in jeopardy of folding without the help of the volunteer delivery persons.

How to Become a Volunteer with this Program

Although the Home Bound Meal Delivery Program is the largest of the RSVP Programs—involving between 40 and 50 volunteers, new volunteer drivers are always needed and are much appreciated.  If you would like to become a part of this meal delivery program, either as a regular meal delivery volunteer or as a substitute driver, please contact Traci at RSVP by calling 762-9412.
