DISTRIBUTIVE SERVICES
RSVP sponsors three different Distributive Services programs. These three programs are:
The “Goody Bags” Program
Description of the Program
The “Goody Bags” Program is a quarterly companionship/outreach program involving the distribution of educational flyers, small gift items, and senior nutritional and program information to elderly homebound seniors. It is an attempt to improve the education, socialization, and nutrition of the recipients. The Goody Bags are prepared and delivered by RSVP volunteers who regularly deliver meals to these homebound individuals. RSVP coordinates with local nutrition sites to identify homebound seniors who become part of this program.
Purpose/Need for the Program
Although many homebound seniors receive meals delivered to their home, which meets their nutritional needs, there is a real gap in the area of socialization and education. The identified needs of the homebound seniors were significantly higher among Kay County Native Americans, who are of special concern and are being targeted for this program. Nutrition and health information is vital for improved health. In addition, the only social contact many of these homebound seniors receive during the day is the one from the person delivering their daily meal, and this allows them to feel more connected to what is going on outside the confines of their home.
How to Become a Volunteer with this Program
Volunteers are always needed for this program to help assemble these “goody bags” on a quarterly basis and for the delivery of the meals and goody bags. If you are interested in helping with this program, please contact RSVP Director Rocky Hudson or Traci at 762-9412.
The Mail-Out Brigade Program
Description of the Program
The Mail-Out Brigade Program involves RSVP volunteers assembling and preparing various types of correspondence (newsletters, event notices, etc.) to be mailed out to a list of people provided by the non-profit organization requesting the assistance. When the RSVP office is notified that there is a need for assistance with a mail-out, the materials to be mailed out are usually assembled at the RSVP office. However, they can, under certain circumstances, be assembled in the home a volunteer and returned to the office.
Purpose/Need for the Program
The main purpose of this program is to provide needed assistance with mail-outs to the non-profit organizations requesting it and to enable their staff to have more time to focus on other projects. Additionally, the assembling of the mail-out materials provides an opportunity for the RSVP volunteers involved to feel productive and useful while enjoying the socialization the project provides.
How to Become a Volunteer with this Program
Volunteers are always welcome to help with these periodic mail-outs. Just let Traci at RSVP know of your interest in being a part of these mail-out brigade groups by giving her a call at 762-9412.
