CHATLINE PROGRAM

Description of the Program

Chatline is a program started in 2007 in which RSVP Volunteers make a daily contact by phone with Kay County residents enrolled in the program in order to check on their safety and well-being.  The daily call also provides an opportunity for a brief friendly “chat” to alleviate possible feeling of isolation and loneliness.

Purpose/Need for the Program

There are Kay County residents, notably elderly residents, living independently in their homes with significant personal safety concerns, who have no local support network of family and friends who can check on them regularly to insure their safety and well-being. In addition, these residents often experience feelings of loneliness and isolation.  Many Chatline participants indicate that the program really meets a significant need—that of filling the emptiness and relieving their fears resulting from the collapse of their support network of family and friends.  The Chatline Program indeed helps meet their need for continued independent living.
